Virginia Marine Science Museum

A Treat for the Whole Family

This Science Museum is a real treat for young and old alike. This is one place you will want to bring even the youngest members of the family. You will want to plan on spending at least four to five hours here in order to fully explore everything it has to offer.

Sea Life in Abundance

In the Atlantic Ocean Pavilion and the Main Building you will discover the world of sharks. Inside a huge three hundred thousand gallon aquarium swim not only several kinds of sharks but other large sea creatures such as stingrays. You will be glad you are on the outside looking in!

You can learn all about sea turtles in this area too. See how they hatch and watch them swim in their own aquarium. A life size model of a humpback whale brings the ocean to life as well as the jellyfish and octopus aquarium.

Owls Creek Marsh

Next visit the Owls Creek Marsh Pavilion. This pavilion houses aquariums and terrariums for a variety of animals including seahorse, river otters and seahorses. You will learn all about Owls Creek salt marsh and the animals that live there.  An outdoor aviary has over fifty-five different species of birds that are local to Virginia Beach including regal great blue herons, ducks of all kinds and egrets.

Check the IMAX Theater

At this point you may want to take in whatever is playing at the IMAX Theater. An amazing larger than life experience, the movies change so be sure and check what will be playing during the time you are there.

Nature Trail

Next take a stroll on the Nature Trail. The trail is a wonderful experience and is great for a nice leisurely stroll with the kids. The trail actually connects the buildings and winds its way through the Owls Creek Marsh. The things you can see along the way are fantastic. An observation tower, information boxes and shaded trail all add to the wonderful experience.
